Welcome Parents, Guardians, and Students to my blog.  I thought it would be helpful for me to post important information and helpful hints that you can access from home.  I will be posting the vocabulary words that students need to study as well as websites that may help students practice Reading and Math skills.  I hope to see everyone on Monday, September 19, 2011 for the open house. 

Reading-This is the study guide for this week.

Spelling Skill and Practice Words-short e, short o, and short u sounds

Reading Skill

Characters – Students need to be able to identify and describe characters in a story.

Writing Skill

A statement is a telling sentence.

A question is an asking sentence.

Story Vocabulary Words and Definitions

covered – to place something over something else

everything – all things you see all around

guess – try to figure out or predict

through – in one side and out the other

woods – an area with trees all around

surprised – shocked about something you didn’t know was going to happen

pleased - happy

Robust Vocabulary Words and Definitions

Edge – border or side neighborly – friendly to people who live

Ventured – went some place new near you

Described – tell about it in detail

Hesitate – pause or wait before doing something

Anonymous – without a name

Unselfish – you share with others

Satisfied – happy with the way things are

Tuesday	·        Math-Pocket day at home ·        Spelling Tic-Tac-Toe activity #2 ·        Practice H.F. words and Robust vocab. ·        Read for 15 minutes and fill out book log.
Wednesday	·        Spelling Tic-Tac-Toe activity #3 ·        Read for 15 minutes and complete log. ·        Practice H.F. words and Robust vocab words.
Thursday	·        Practice H.F. words and Robust vocab. for the test tomorrow. ·        Read for 15 minutes and complete log.
Friday	·        Please sign and return the Friday report on Monday. ·        Read 15 minutes every night and complete log to turn in on Monday.
Reminders	·        Wear sneakers for Gym on Monday and Friday. ·        Open house is on 9/19/11. ·        Visit my blog at http://ms-lathem.blogspot.com
